Getting Started
Using the system
Make sure the steps mentioned below on "First Operation / Commissioning" have been followed through at least once after initial installation.
- Doublecheck that all cable and antenna connections are fastened and the physical mounts/screws are okay/fastened.
- Switch the base on, make sure it is connected via ethernet to the SPIR laptop.
- Connect via web interface to SKIDER Base (http://192.168.157.1)
- Open the link status page, as the Mobile is still switched off, you will see the links being inactive
- Switch the mobile device on (including drone if position data is obtained from drone)
- Wait for all links to appear and become active
- Check the sensor status page. The sensor on the page should turn green and total sensor data should continuously increase. Check GNSS fix type/satellites to show a high quality fix in case you are outside and the position is expected to be accurate.
- Start SPIR Wizard according to SPIR instructions. The sensor should be detected and the system is operational.
First Operation / Commissioning
- It is suggested to perform the following steps before mechanical integration of the SKIDER/SPIR system in the target situation.
- In case you want to use a cellular connection: Install SIM cards to base and mobile. The sim card must have PINs deactivated beforehand. See respective section under Hardware Setup.
- Attach Antennas to SKIDER Mobile.
- Connect SKIDER Mobile with an ethernet cable to the SPIR Laptop and power SKIDER Mobile with the AC-Adapter of the Base.
- Set your local IP of the SPIR Laptop to 192.168.158.10 - you should be able to ping 192.168.158.1 (the mobile) and access the web interface through a browser (http://192.168.158.1)
- Perform an update in case an update was suggested either by the web interface or through other channels
- Perform the basic software setup for SKIDER Mobile:
- Doublecheck "Short Range" configuration page (channel and network name must match for all devices)
- Check Mobile Network page: Is the APN set up correctly (according to operator information)? After APN change perform a power cycle in case it does not directly connect. First operation with a new SIM in a new country might take a few minutes.
- After checking Mobile network check that VPN is connected through having a look at the VPN tab. Take a note of the "Customer VPN IP" shown in the interface.
- In the SKIDER Mobile tab of the Web interface check:
- Control interface must be GNSS or OSDK (without control)
- Auxilliary port must be set to SPIR explorer
- Telemetry interval should be 10s
- Local cellular IP must be your Customer VPN IP. Cellular base IP should usually be the Customer VPN IP of the base. It should be on your quick reference card for newer devices. Otherwise you will need to fill it in later after you have looked it up for the base.
- Make sure Mesh base IP is 192.168.33.1
- Try to power the mobile with battery or the power supply cable to the drone.
- Proceed with the base: power it through battery or AC adapter and connect the laptop via ethernet to it.
- Set your local IP of the SPIR Laptop to 192.168.157.10 - you should be able to ping 192.168.157.1 (the base) and access the web interface through a browser (http://192.168.157.1)
- Perform the basic software setup for SKIDER Base:
- Check Short range settings to match the one's from the mobile
- Check Mobile network connectivity, configure APN as above. Power cycle if needed.
- Note customer VPN IP for the base
- In the SKIDER Base tab check:
- SPIR IP should be the laptop IP (192.168.157.10)
- Local Cellular IP should be the customer VPN IP of the base as noted above
- You should be able to perform a dry run by following the instructions for "Using the System" above.
- In case of a successful dry-run, perform the mechanical installation and perform functional testing
